There is clear evidence that kids do indeed spend a lot of time on devices and online.

A survey showed that 13 to 18-year-olds spend an average of 9 hours a day “using media for their enjoyment”. Kids 8 to 12 spend about 6 hours a day on average on smartphones, laptops and tablets. A study found that 54 percent of teens say they “spend too much time on their cellphone,” and another 45 percent say they are online “almost constantly.”*
